How to Clean Keurig 2.0

What is Decalcifying

Decalcifying is another term for cleaning your keurig. You will often see the term descaling more than you see the term cleaning or decalcifying. Cleaning your keurig is important for several reasons.

Why You Should be Decalcifying Your Keurig

When you let your Keurig build up debris, residue, and become nasty, you put the life of your Keurig at risk. These will damage your Keurig overtime and cause you to have to purchase a new coffee maker very soon.

Another reason for decalcifying your Keurig is to improve the taste of your coffee. It is only natural that the debris and residue that build up in your Keurig will affect the taste of your coffee. To have the freshest coffee that your Keurig can make, keeping it clean is vital.

How Often Should You Clean Your Keurig

When it comes to discussing decalcifying your Keurig, many people want to know how often they need to do so. There is no set schedule that you should follow when cleaning your Keurig. However, as a general rule of thumb, the more you use your Keurig, the more often you should clean your Keurig. Another factor that affects this is the quality of your water. If your water has a lot of minerals in it, that can affect the amount of residue left in your Keurig after each use.

Cleaning your Keurig every other month is a good thing to aspire to. It will keep your coffee fresh and have your Keurig lasting longer.

How to Decalcify Keurig

There are many different Keurig brewers available, but today we will be focusing on the Keurig HOT Brewers as they are the most common. If you have another Keurig, the steps are similar, but not exactly the same.

Step 1:

Remove all the water out of the reservoir of the Keurig. You should also remove the Keurig water filter if you have one. Turn off the ‘Auto Off’ feature so that it does not get in our way. Now, you can go ahead and turn the brewer off.

Step 2:

The easiest way to go about this is to order a bottle of Keurig Descaling solution. This will help make the entire process easier and make sure everything is cleaned to perfection. Take the bottle that you bought and pour it in the water reservoir. Now, turn the Keurig back on.

Step 3:

Put a cup or mug on the drip tray to catch the solution as it comes out. To start the cleansing, lift and lower the handle, select the 10 ounce size, and click on brew. After the cleansing is done, dump out the cup into your sink.

Step 4:

Repeat this process until a display is shown that says ‘More Water Please.’. Once you see this, it means all of the descaling solution has been emptied from the water reservoir. Afterwards, let the Keurig sit for half an hour and then clean out your water reservoir thoroughly.

Step 5:

Pour regular fresh water into your water reservoir so that we can do a final cleansing of it. Grab the same cup you used in the earlier step and repeat the process by starting the cleanse with a 10 ounce size brew. This will help flush out the descaling solution.
